Even though I don’t have a traditional job like most people, I do spend a lot of time in front of the computer. I get caught up in my work, and my posture starts to give up.

Next thing I know, I’m experiencing back and neck pain that is interfering with my workouts. What to do?

Well, I came across a little guide that shows you some simple movements you can perform while sitting that can actually help relieve neck and back pain.

These movements are incredible simple and easy to perform. And they work! So, I contacted the author, Mr. Paolo Manneschi for a quick interview and help spread the word about his guide.

Here’s what we talked about:
Parth: Hi Paolo Can you tell my readers what your book “Well Being at the Workplace” is all about?

Paolo: It is about improving your posture while seated for several hours at your desk.

Parth: For people who are suffering from back pains, what is the one piece of advice you would like to give them?

Paolo: My advice is to avoid physical immobility. Staying in the same position seated at your desk brings back pains and weighs you down, we must try to regularly do the exercises in the manual to avoid pain in our bodies.

Parth: Agreed. The worst thing for your body is immobility. If you don’t use the muscles in your body now, you won’t be able to use them when you get older. Great advice. Do you provide any workouts in your manual?

Paolo: The manual provides a series of exercises that can be done sitting at your desk and also at home.

Parth: How does nutrition play into the wellbeing of your body?

Paolo: Nutrition has a very important role in our lives and we need to learn how to listen to our bodies better. It is not easy for our bodies to absorb many fatty and sugary foods but it is essential that we eat enough protein to have balanced mental and physical health. One who leads a sedentary lifestyle has more difficulty burning up what they eat and drink which is another reason why I wrote this manual to help people realize that their body exists and needs to be treated well.

Parth: Good points. When people get a stiff neck, is it just because they did not sleep properly or is there something more to it?

Paolo: There are many factors involved with neck pain, it doesn’t always depend on how we slept the night before. For example, if we have a stressful day or get into an argument on the same day the following day it is very likely that we will have some sort of neck pain. All of the nervous tension that starts from our head moves down and into our neck and back. Since the neck is a very fragile area of the body it tends to tighten easily. That is why exercising and stretching that area, in addition to deep breaths, greatly helps avoiding a muscular contraction in the neck.

Parth: What kind of equipment would an individual need to perform your exercises?

Paolo: My exercise is geared towards the workplace therefore a chair, a table and a wall are sufficient and the exercises are self sustainable and are meant also to not disturb anyone around us.
Parth: That’s a good point. It would be funny if you had to bring a foam roller to the workplace. Anyways, what is your background? What makes you an expert in pain relief?

Paolo: I specialize in Massage Physical Therapy and have practiced for 20 years. My father was my Judo master and through this discipline I learned to respect and understand my body which like a violin out of tune doesn’t perform correctly.

Parth: How long does your exercise routine take?

Paolo: This manual allows you in just 5 to 10 minutes practice exercises that help your articulation and posture and dedicating this short amount of time daily will only benefit your body, mind and soul.

Parth: Ok. Individuals who read my blog are looking for intense workouts. So, is this routine good for individuals who follow a rigid workout schedule and suffer from back and neck pains?

Paolo: My manual is efficient. Improving posture helps tone our muscles and get rid of contractions and tension in our bodies. If we dedicate from 5-10 minutes a day the effects can be remarkable and this applies to people with busy schedules and busy lives.

I just want to note that adding in Paolo’s routine has greatly improved my recovery time between workouts. And of course, my neck and lower back feel so much better!
