Review of Scott Sonnon’s TacFit King of Clubs – Pros & Cons

TacFit King of Clubs is one of many unique, tactical fitness programs from Scott Sonnon and his company, TacFit.

The following is a sample workout to help you understand what you’ll find in this plan:

What is TacFit King of Clubs?

This is a beginner-level intro program to Clubbell training. This, however, doesn’t mean it’s a simple plan. It can be used by advanced trainees as well to help them practice the basics and get a kick-ass workout in the process.

You will only require one clubbell for the program. Each exercise is done for 45 minutes on one side, 45 seconds on the other side, followed by a 30 second rest. This is an escape from the typical TacFit protocol of 20/10.

This was done most likely to emphasize greater time under tension for clubbell training. Clubbells were most commonly used by ancient wrestlers as way to train both endurance and strength.

A big plus here is that you only require one Clubbell to perform the entire workout. For those new clubbell training, one-handed drills will be extremely difficult. This is why Scott has organized the plan to only include one Clubbell.

In addition, the movements used are extremely basic, as evidenced by the video. This is a plan that anyone can do. Once you complete King of Clubs, you can move onto more difficult clubbell training plans by TacFit.

TacFit’s goal has always been to go against the grain of traditional fitness plans – not for the sake of rebelling, but because Scott has a desire to figure out a better way of doing things. What he’s understood is that the ancients had a much better grasp on physical movement then we do now.

Most of sport and life isn’t as one-dimensional as our training is. This is beyond escaping boredom. It’s about doing things that have direct carry over to your life and your sport.

Clubbell training won’t make you look like a bodybuilder, and that is certainly not the goal here. What you’ll get with the King of Clubs program is a completely different approach to sports-specific training.

Pros of Tacfit King of Clubs:

#1 – Get the cardio benefit without performing long, boring steady state cardio. King of Clubs is extremely minimalist – providing you with a strength and cardio benefit, all packed into one simple, explosive workout.

#2 – Workouts are intense and fast paced. TacFit workouts are always structured in this manner. If you’re in military, law enforcement, or a combat athlete – slow will get you killed.

#3 – This program is perfect for busy people. This program is very popular amongst business owners, students, parents and anyone else with a super busy schedule. Scott Sonnon shows people that they don’t have to sacrifice fitness to fulfil their duties in life.

#4 – TacFit King of Clubs is a stand-alone program, meaning that you don’t need any other sort of training program for this system to work. It also includes a warmup and cooldown section, TacFit style.

Cons of TacFit King of Clubs:

The biggest problem you will have with this program is figuring out how to time the intervals. I use an interval timer on my android phone called “Interval Timer” which allows you to customize your interval levels to specifications this program allows.

My suggestion is that if you have a smartphone, then browse around for good interval timer to use alongside  TacFit King of Clubs.

Second thing to note – clubbells are not included with this program. Obvious, but it still needs to be mentioned.
